Beach Boys Photographs

Knebworth 21st June 1980- The Beach Boys played on the bill with Mike Oldfield, Santana, The Blues Band, Elkie Brooks and Lindisfarne.
Their appearance at Knebworth was the last time the core group (the Wilson brothers plus Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Bruce Johnston) appeared on-stage in Great Britain. The backup band included Ed Carter, Mike Meros, Bobby Figueroa and Joe Chemay. Touring behind their recent Keepin' the Summer Alive LP, the Beach Boys did a lengthy set that focused on their hits of the 1960s and early '70s, presaging their golden twilight as the mightiest of the oldies acts touring the state fairs and exhibition centers of America. With Mike Love and Carl Wilson leading the band, though, the band was fairly strong here, and no other rock artists then touring had such a barrage of hits to play. For 'God Only Knows' both Carl's lead vocal and the band's harmonies were as pure as on the original, and Mike Love showed his frontman skills leading the band through a cover of Chuck Berry's 'School Days'.
The performance was released on the CD Good Timin'.
Set-list: California Girls, Sloop John B, Darlin', School Days, God Only Knows, Be True to Your School, Do It Again, Little Deuce Coupe, Cotton Fields/Heroes and Villains, Happy Birthday Brian, Keepin' the Summer Alive, Keepin' the Summer Alive, Lady Lynda, Surfer Girl, Help Me Rhonda, Rock & Roll Music, I Get Around, Surfin' U.S.A., You Are So Beautiful, Good Vibrations, Barbara Ann, Fun Fun Fun.

Sadly Carl Wilson (in green jacket) died on 6th February 1998 and Dennis Wilson (drummer) died on 28th December 1983.
