As this was the first theatre tour of UK that Genesis had done for 5 years there was a huge demand for tickets. I lived in Birmingham then, and decided to queue all night for tickets. The queue for tickets for Birmingham Odeon stretched round the streets of the Birmingham city centre at 11:30pm, and it became patently obvious that there were already more people in the queue than there were tickets available, so I went home. I bought a ticket for Birmingham on the day of the concert in Reddington Rare Records in Birmingham for £20.00 (I think the face value was £2.50). I turned up for the Liverpool concert on 2nd May without a ticket, and was lucky to buy one outside the theatre (for a highly inflated price). I met someone I knew who had a spare ticket for the 3rd May at Liverpool, and he was kind enough to sell me that ticket for list price. I also caught this tour at Coventry Theatre - I arrived at about 5:30pm, and there were about 20 people trying to buy tickets, but none were available. Suddenly a punk biker wearing socks but no shoes came up to me and asked me if I needed a ticket - I said yes, and he gave me one free for row H in the stalls - I could not believe my luck. The guy next to me started to complain because he had been around trying to buy a ticket since 3:00pm, and felt that he should have the ticket. I asked why he was giving it away free, and he explained that he had 2 chances of getting a ticket, and both came good - he was so happy that he decided to give the ticket away free. I asked if he had another for my friend Phil Johnson, and he said yes, so Phil also got in free. The guy who had been waiting all afternoon asked if there was another available, but the biker said no, leaving the ticketless guy seething. We went round to see my friend, who was stage-doorman - he had heard that there were some forgeries on sale, and we immediately thought that we had been given some of these tickets, but ours tuned out to be genuine. While backstage we could see Phil Collins and Daryl Stuermer playing table tennis while relaxing before the concert.
